Day 1 LeJog 6th April 2013 - Lands End.......Rollin, Rollin, Rollin

Nope, I'm not referring to the Limp Bizkit song Rollin Rollin Rollin, more the classic Blues Brothers song Rawhide, but more on that later...

So here is a few pictures from the night before

The actual morning of the ride we fueled up on a cracking full English, sorry Full Cornish breakfast and then got ready to set off on our ride to the top of the country.
The breakfast was a lot later than we had expected but not much we could do about that.  At least we didn't have to pay the £10 fee for our photo with the sign......

These are the types of shots the professional photographer takes.  I'll leave it up to you to zoom in, if you want....

The route was to end up at Okehampton taking in some minor roads so that we were away from the holiday traffic.  We didn't see many cars but Ric managed to get to Yorkshire
before I got to Penzance!!!  Nice view though.
We also crossed a really blue exturay on the Harry Feeny Ferry.  Bit of a break and some food, then a big hill afterwards.

We
We met the girls ( our support crew ) for a great lunch in Charlestown, although we had thought we were going to St. Austell and we had fun seeing St. Austell get to 2 miles away, then 3, then 1mile and Ric was getting a bit naffed off until we turned a corner and there they were ready for us.

We plowed on thinking we were making good time, but with (use Error ) Garmin SatNav getting us lost, we found ourselves going up and down almost every dale in the area.  Some awful roads that looked that hardly anything had been down them for some time.  Some mega steep climbs too.
It seems we got well lost.
With light fading fast we found ourselves in worse conditions as the Garmin battery died almost at the same time as my mobile so we were cycling blind.

We then decided to call a halt to the first day and be rescued by our lovely and understanding wives.  I think we topped the 100miles but still some 22miles away from our Hotel and no way of really knowing how we'd manage to get there, let alone have much left in the tank!

So, it looks like some re-planning for tomorrow.

Back at the hotel, showered and Ric Savlon'd up as he'd worn through his thermal tights, so now you know whhy the song Rawhidewe first attempted to eat at the Little Chef ( beggars can't be choosers!! ) but even though it was just after 8:30 and they are supposed to be open until 9pm they'd shut early.  The girls then rushed off to Okehampton to find some food and turned up with Chinese Takeaway.

It took us an hour or so to re-route but that would be from our `rescued` point from last night.

Stage 2 tomorrow then....
