Training Part 2

With the prospect of cycling with 3600 other Sportive riders on the Cheshire Cat, me and Ric decided to go on a 80mile ride taking in some new climbs for Ric.  Damn it was another cold day that progressively got worse.
One thing I don't like cycling in, is my baggy flourescent water proof jacket but needs must...
Setting off from my house we took in Delph Lane and Long Lane  at the back of Garstang and then over the moor road down to the start of the climb into the Trough of Bowland.  It had started to sleet as we climbed higher but then at the top of the Trough this is what greeted us!!!
What is with me and Ric riding in snow?

A tricky descent found the snow gone or so we thought.  We had mapped the route so that we had to tackle a climb called Bowland Knotts before lunch so we plowed along hoping the snow might not reappear.
Erm, not for us!

This is the top of Bowland Knotts which is from Gisburn Forest along Keasden Road.  A tough climb in good conditions, made worse that you couldn't see the road.  There is supposed to be some hills in the background!!!  I think I still had some fingers...somewhere.
The descent towards Bentham should be fast and flowing, but not today!!

The lunch stop was Bridge Inn Cafe in Wray and very yummy it was too, if a tad expensive.

This is the ride

To end this ride, I had a bit of mechanical trouble.  Having bought a new cassette with a larger big gear to help on the hills, the rear mechanism seemed to be causing the chain to jump.  So much so, that on every pedal stroke it jumped making it a bit difficult to pedal smoothly.  As we were doing the Cheshire Cat the next weekend and the LeJog soon, a service was booked in for the bike at Wyre Cycles in Poulton.
The larger cassette was too large for the rear mech and so it was catching!  Didn't know there are small, medium and large rear mech's but I do now!
